Arthur Hills designed the Willoughby course with four sets of tees to make sure both men and women golfers are suitably challenged, but never faced with the sense of either hopelessness or monotony you find in less imaginative Florida layouts. From the championship tees used in US Open qualifiers, the course plays to just under 6,800 yards between towering trees and natural wetlands, over unfriendly lakes and around more than 55 all too inviting bunkers. In keeping with the Arthur Hills tradition, Willoughby is a shot maker’s course carved out of the natural surroundings and making abundant use of all available flora, hillocks and swales to create the most picturesque golf course in the area. The resultant varied terrain ensures that shot selection at Willoughby never seems repetitive and with each day’s round the sense of challenge and fascination is renewed.
