Courses to Stimulate Mind & Body

This thought is fundamental to the Arthur Hills design approach to the golf course. He favors the traditional and seeks to “honor the existing character of the site” by keeping earth moving to a minimum and the “elements that provide beauty in a golf course – textures and colors, shadowing and framing” in the forefront. Creating “variety in terms of shot values and angles” and ensuring playability through the use of multiple tees, Arthur Hills builds courses that are “both aesthetically pleasing and strategically sound.” His original designs include the Camelback Inn in Scottsdale, Arizona, Bighorn in Palm Desert, California, Newport National Golf Club in Rhode Island and Mirasol in nearby Palm Beach Gardens. And, renovation assignments include Oakmont, Oakland Hills and Congressional. For Willoughby Golf Club he framed the course with palms, palmettos and beautiful homes, put water into play occasionally where risk/reward would impact outcomes and carved the holes out of the natural landscape and concomitant preserves. The result is a blend of looks and hazards that seem part Florida, part North Carolina and a bit of “unlike anything.” To visit the Arthur Hills website, click here.
